Patrick Tate, an Irish undertaker, lives with his wife, Audrey, and their two children on the outskirts of an American Western town founded by god-fearing people who hope to create paradise on Earth. Life is hard on the frontier, but the people live in peace and prosperity. After an outlaw, Dutch Albert, shows up one night to ask for the undertaker's services, Patrick finds himself trapped by circumstances beyond his control. He witnesses a murder, but stays silent and buries the body because of fear. Soon after, Dutch and his gang take over the town. They threaten and harass the people and kill the sheriff and the preacher. The townspeople blame Patrick for their situation because he accepted the outlaws' evil business. Patrick continues to bury each body and accept the money until the outlaws threaten his family. Can he face his fears of death and committing the sins of revenge and murder to save lives and himself?
